Give a Horse the Opportunity to Change Lives

At Equestrian Bridges, our horses are more than just animals—they are partners, teachers, and healers. Every horse in our herd plays a vital role in helping children, veterans, first responders, and individuals with physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges build confidence, independence, and meaningful connections.

If you have a horse with a kind heart and a willing spirit, donating them to Equestrian Bridges could provide them with a purposeful second career while allowing them to impact hundreds of lives throughout our community.

What Makes a Great Therapy Horse?

Not every horse is suited for therapy work, and that's okay. The horses that thrive at Equestrian Bridges share a unique combination of temperament, soundness, and a genuine willingness to connect with people.

While every horse is evaluated individually, we generally look for horses that are:

  • Under 10 years of age

  • Geldings or mares only (no stallions)

  • Sound and healthy, with no chronic lameness or conditions that would limit participation

  • Possess a calm, kind, and patient temperament

  • Comfortable around people of all ages and abilities

  • Safe to handle both on the ground and under saddle

  • Comfortable around wheelchairs, mobility equipment, adaptive tack, and unexpected movement or sounds (or demonstrate the potential to become comfortable through training)

  • Enjoy human interaction and thrive on building relationships

Above all, we are looking for horses with a gentle heart and a willing mind.

Our Evaluation Process:

Every horse donation inquiry is carefully reviewed to ensure it is the right fit for both the horse and our programs.

Our evaluation may include:

  • Veterinary history review

  • Soundness assessment

  • Ground handling evaluation

  • Riding evaluation (if applicable)

  • Temperament assessment

  • Trial period, when appropriate

Our goal is to ensure every horse is successful, comfortable, and enjoys their work as a therapy horse.
